Summer Lovin'!

Hey Guys,
I'm Miah, the eldest of the bunch, but definitely not the most mature. Which is ironic because I'm spending my summer as a Camp Counselor (you may disagree with the spelling of the word, but this is how my camp spells it) for somewhere in the range of 3-5 year old kids. So far we've only had pre-camp where all the staff gets training and such so its been really boring, but come Monday I'm hanging out with incredibly cute campers! Monday night we had a newbies vs. oldies battle, (which of course the oldies won-- I being one of them) during the night if ever the Director or Assistant-Director (Boss, and Baby-Boss) said the word summer, the oldies had to sign "Summer Lovin'" from Grease. The night all in all was awkward yet fun. Yesterday we spent it doing a lot of icebreakers with our "Teams" which were basically us being broken off into groups based off last names. Mine starting with U meant I was in Team 8. Today we had more actual training like learning how to deal with misbehaving campers, administering epi-pens, and camp policies. We were also broken off into our Units and Cabins, which is really the best part of pre-camp.
Also on Sunday night I came back from my family Vacation to Washington, which had loads of pictures accompanying it, but I have yet to upload the photos so next week will be an incredibly long blog of first days of Camp and Washington.
Anyways... My life lately has been of last minutes switches. For example I received word from my university Monday that I had to be there for registration for noon, I received this e-mail at 11:30. Needless to say I didn't go because well I wasn't showered and hardly awake having gone to bed at 2 the morning before after landing in the city from Washington. For your curiosity I'm going to an Art School next September. And then I learned that today I was supposed to be at Camp for 9, not 12:30 like yesterday, this meaning I couldn't say my final good-bye to High School. Oh well.
I am so sorry this is so long... I can't promise they'll be shorter, but I can somewhat promise less babbly.
Miah
P.S. I'm really tired so I'm sorry for any and all spelling mistakes
P.P.S. HAPPY CANADA DAY TO ALL THE CANDADIANS! (July 1.)

Salut!

Hey guys, typing on a French keyboard so some things might be a little zeird (*weird).

I'm Lee and I'm reaching you from Paris. That's right: Paris, France.

Here with two other lovely ladies - one of whom you'll meet on Thursday - and living the adventure. So far we've seen the big things (Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Galleries Lafayette, for example) and some great little things (grocery store dessert sections, nice shops, boulangeries...) and it's been a blast.

Within the week we travel to Bruges and Brussels, then Lille and... London!
But by way of introduction I suppose that isn't very telling.

So let's see. I'm... short? High achieving, near-sighted, studious, good with maps (thanks Sloan), and easily flustered. Also apparently easily frustrated by this qnnoying french keyboqrd (*annoying french keyboard)!

Sorry that this has to be such a short post, but I'm dying here - qwerty>azerty - and oh we might go check out an opera or something cool like that.

Aight so later guys!
Lee

I think we are all weird...

Hi I'm Rae!

This will be an amazing adventure into our lives that I am very excited about. This whole idea that we came up with will hopefully allow us to stay as close as we are now even when we all go our own direction. I can’t speak for everyone but my direction takes me about 3 hours away from everyone and as much as that sucks I am super excited about the College that I am going to. I am studying Arts and Science, it’s program that is being revolutionized at the College that I’m going to.

Moving on… I am totally into YouTube, it's one of my biggest loves in life. I don’t want to over use the term addicted but I would say that I am addicted to YouTube. I know how silly that might sound but yes unquestionably I am. I also love Harry Potter both the books and movies. My favourite book is the third one “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” it’s my favourite because it has nothing to do with Voldemort. As for my favourite movie well, that will have to wait until I see them all so I’ll get back to you on that.

As part of our High School Diplomas’ students in Ontario have to do 40 hours of community service. Volunteering was something that my family and I do all the time, sometimes I feel like it is now embedded into my genetic code because my parents had my younger brother and I do it for so many years when we were younger. So when I was in grade 9 I decided that I wanted to start right a way and with my Mom’s help I become a Junior Leader at my local Sparks group. Sparks is the youngest branch of Girl Guides of Canada for 5 and 6 year old girls (other wise known as Senior Kindergarten and Grade 1). At first I was doing it for the hours then I fell in love with doing it and very quickly became a passion of mine – to work with young children to help make their lives better. The icing on the cake was that I knew that I did not have to do any of it, I was getting no money for doing this, I was simply doing it to make their lives and in turn my life better. They were having just as big of an impact on me as I hope and think I was having on them.

Along that same vein this summer from today to July 30 I am volunteering at a local Hospital in the gift shop. I know that I could/should have gotten a paying job but I started looking too late and never got a job so I am doing something that I have always wanted to do every since I was a little girl – work a cash register. This position will also work wonderfully as a reference on a ‘real job’ application. So, I’m off for my first day, it’s really orientation not work I have to learn things about the Hospital before I can do anything else.

So... I’m off to work and I’ll talk to you Friday!

Till next time,
Rae <3

Welcome!

Hey Guys,
Welcome to Plaid and Stripes, you have now entered our RELM! (Yeah... maybe we'll explain that one later...) We're four friends trying to figure out this world. This Blog is going to mainly be used as a way for us to communicate during our lives after high school. After a long two hours we finally came up with the name for our blog simply out of frustration. Plaid and Stripes has been a running joke for the past four years that we have known each other - it all started one day in the spring when too many boys to count (but we tried) walked into our high school wearing striped shirts and plaid shorts. In our world that is a big fashion no no but we have slowly accepted it into our lives.

We're going to follow a daily pattern from Monday to Thursday. Fridays will follow a weekly rotation between us.

Thanks for reading!
